Going to the Junior Olympics

Last weekend was the U20 JO qualifier at Boston Fencing Club. Alex fenced men's epee on Sunday and won. So, we're going to Arlington Texas in February. Congratulations to all the fencers and to the club for another smoothly run event.

Heading to Worcester to visit Laura and Ross and the kids for T-day. Mom is making corn pudding, a Southern treat that I've loved since I was a girl. Here's the recipe:

Corn pudding, Southern style

2 c cooked corn kernels
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 T sugar
2 T butter, melted
2 c milk, scalded and cooled to body temperature
1 1/2 t salt
1/4 t pepper

Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Combine all ingredients; pour into a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Set casserole in a pan of warm water, in the middle of the oven. Bake, uncovered, 1 1/4 hours, or until the custard is set. Serves 6.

Had my first cup of Starbucks Christmas blend this year--now I think I'm ready to take on holiday shopping. This year, we are buying locally which we haven't done for a long while. I've been a huge fan of mail-order (well, actually web-order). We'll also try to get the tree up next weekend. Can't wait for the smell of pine boughs in the house.

Massachusetts is again considering some form of universal healthcare and that makes me very happy. I am willing to pay the extra money to fulfill this sorely needed aspect of what's left of the social contract. Perhaps blues can lead by example if not by majority rule...
